Texturing Polygons

1. Once we have created out poly object we need to make sure its ready to receive a texture map. The first thing we should check is to see if the faces are aiming in the right direction (out). We can do this by checking the display of the Normals through the Display > Polygon Components options.
2. Displaying Polygon components
- Display > Polygon Components
- Face Centers – good for seeing if the face is on the inside or outside of the surface.
- UVs – good for making sure the UV points are where they are suppose to be (used for corrected UVs that may have been shifted around during the creation of the UV map).
- Normals – the best display option to see if our faces are pointing outwards and in the direction they should be going.
- If the Normals are not facing out, we’ll need
to make them facing outward. Correcting this can be easy
or painful depending on how the poly surface was created.
- Polygons > Normals
- Set Vertex Normal
- Average Normals
- Set to Face
- Reverse
- Conform
